How PHP Fits Into Your Recovery Path

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is an intensive level of substance use care Fenix Recovery provides in-house, and the starting point for most clients who come to us. It’s structured, full-day treatment, typically five days a week, without an overnight stay. PHP provides the same clinical intensity as inpatient care, except the part where you have to leave your life behind to get it.

PHP combines individual therapy, group therapy, and evidence-based clinical protocols like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) with medical oversight and relapse-prevention planning. If mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, and trauma are co-existing, dual-diagnosis care ensures they get treated in the same treatment plan from day one, not addressed individually later.

If withdrawal management is needed first, Fenix refers clients to a trusted medical detox partner and begins PHP once that step is complete. Fenix does not provide detox or residential inpatient care on-site. PHP is one part of Fenix’s broader Substance Use Treatment program.

Is PHP the Right Level of Care for You?

Substance use PHP fits someone who needs more than a few hours of counseling a week, but does not need round-the-clock hospitalization or residential care. That is often someone who:

If you are not sure PHP is the right fit, an admissions counselor will talk through your situation with you, free of charge and without any obligation to enroll.

A Safe and Supportive Environment for Recovery

Recovery from substance abuse requires more than detox, it requires emotional healing and ongoing support. Our PHP provides a safe, structured space where you can focus on recovery without judgment. Through individual therapy, group counseling, relapse prevention training, and holistic support, we help you rebuild emotional strength and stability.

Where PHP Fits: Detox, PHP, IOP, OP, and Residential Care

Level of Care What It Is Provided by Fenix?
Medical Detox Medically managed withdrawal Referred out to a trusted partner
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) Full-day structured treatment, no overnight stay Yes — starting point for most clients
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) Step-down care, fewer hours per week Yes
Outpatient Program (OP) Maintenance-level check-ins Yes
Residential Inpatient 24-hour supervised residential care Referred out to a trusted partner

PHP sits between detox and IOP. Most clients move through PHP first, then step down to IOP as stability builds, and finally to OP for long-term maintenance. Fenix coordinates the referral for detox or residential care directly, so nothing falls through the gap between providers.

What a Week in PHP Looks Like

A typical PHP week runs five days, around five to six hours a day. Mornings start with a check-in and individual or group therapy, move into skills-based sessions – CBT, DBT, relapse prevention, through midday, and conclude with process groups or holistic interventions like fitness or mindfulness in the afternoon. Evenings and weekends are yours.

Your schedule follows your treatment plan and can shift over time. It is a flexible outline and not something set in stone.

Substance Use Conditions We Treat

Fenix Recovery’s substance use PHP treats a wide array of dependencies, including alcohol addiction, opioid addiction, cocaine addiction, crack addiction, methamphetamine addiction, opiates addiction, and dependence on prescription medications, sedatives, and stimulants.

Many clients who walk through the door are struggling with more than one substance involved, and the program is designed to deal with multiple dependencies at a time rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all approach which isn’t practical.

When a co-occurring mental health condition is present — anxiety, depression, PTSD, or another diagnosis — it’s treated as part of the same plan through Fenix’s dual diagnosis care, so the substance use and the condition alongside it are addressed in one plan rather than separately.

A full list of conditions Fenix treats is available on the Substance Use Disorders page.

“I came to Fenix after another treatment center where I’d had a less than comfortable experience, and didn’t expect it to work for me, but nothing could be further from the truth. My experience has been fulfilling, and the treatment I received here was stellar. The clinical staff is engaging and thorough, and I received care at a level I’d neither experienced or expected. I would DEFINITELY recommend Fenix Recovery to anyone needing substance abuse or mental health treatment, and I am blessed to have been given the opportunity to have been here.”

My name is Eric Johnson, and I have been sober for 9 months now. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for the transformative experience I've had at Fenix Recovery . After losing my husband of ten years and my mother to cancer, I found myself spiraling into a deep pit of grief and substance abuse, developing a fentanyl and meth problem that led to losing my job and home. It was during this dark period that I entered the Fenix program, and I can honestly say it has changed my life. Under the guidance of my therapist, Megan, I have engaged in grief and loss therapy, which has helped me process my pain in a healthy way. The incorporation of EMDR therapy has been particularly impactful, allowing me to confront and heal from traumas that had been holding me back. The group therapy sessions have created a supportive environment where I’ve connected with others who understand my struggles, making it feel like a small, tight-knit family rather than just a treatment facility. What sets Fenix apart from larger rehabs is the boutique style of care it offers. The individual attention I received made all the difference in my recovery. I’ve found a sense of community here that I didn’t expect, and it has been incredibly healing. Thanks to the support I’ve received, I’m now working on finishing my social work degree and have found a renewed faith in God. I truly believe that the program at Fenix has given me the tools to rebuild my life and move forward with hope. Thank you, Fenix, for everything. Your dedication to individual care and support has changed my life for the better. Sincerely, Eric Johnson
